Tony Newton is an English dentist. He is president and board chair of the British Dental Health Foundation.
==Career==
Tony Newton took over as President and Board Chair of the British Dental Health Foundation〔https://www.dentalhealth.org/about-us/board-of-trustees〕 for a two-year term in Dec 2013, having served a two term as President-Elect. Once his Presidential term is concluded, he will then serve a further two years as Immediate Past President to support the new incumbent.
Newton's relationship with BDHF goes back over 25 years, with a first Trustee term in the 1980s and a second in the 1990s, during which he was presented with the 'Treasurer's Shield' award by BDHF Chairman Colin Hall Dexter "for his contribution to the Foundation's accreditation scheme."〔Dental Practice magazine 6 Feb 1992, p.40〕
Newton received his dental degree from University College Hospital in 1982 and his Licentiate from the Royal College of Surgeons in 1983, but left clinical practice in 1992 to pursue a career in journalism, corporate communications and training, gaining his Masters (MSc) on the Sloan Fellowship at London Business School in 1998.
in 2014, Newton was awarded his Doctor in Business Administration (DBA) by Durham University Business School, for which he also received the award for 'Best DBA Doctoral Thesis Prize, Summer Congregation 2014 Cohort'.〔https://www.dur.ac.uk/business/news-and-events/news/article/?id=21802〕 In the same year, he was awarded Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP). In 2011, Newton co-authored (with Judith Perle) 'The Network Effect',〔http://www.amazon.co.uk/Network-Effect-Practical-Keeping-Connections/dp/095670980X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328284208&sr=8-1〕 a distillation of the social networking worshops they have run since 2001 at business schools, corporates and 'not for profits' in the UK and abroad.
Most recently, Newton has been the recipient of a University of Edinburgh Law School Tercentenary Award for Excellence,tenable towards an LLM in Medical Law and Ethics.
Newton is a serving Officer with Northumbria Flight, 602 (City of Glasgow) Sqn, RAuxAF. In 2011, he was presented with the John Beattie Award for RAF Journalism.
